INSIGHT / REFLECTION

The Holy Eucharist provides us with a union with the Risen Lord by means of four living symbols: Community, Word, Cross, Meal. These correspond to the four psychological functions of

Feeling (Community of Believers),

Thinking (Word),

Sensing (Cross), and

iNtuition (Meal).

We celebrate the real presence of Jesus through the coming together of the Community of believers.

Read Matthew 18:20.

We contemplate the Word of God from the Sacred Scriptures.
Augustine says that when we proclaim the Word of God in the Eucharist we are just as much in the presence of the Holy Spirit as we are in union with Christ when we partake of the Eucharistic bread and cup.
We commemorate the Paschal mystery of the Cross.

Read 1 Corinthians 11:26.

We anticipate the heavenly banquet of eternity through the ritual meal of holy Communion.

Read 1 Corinthians 10:16
