Forgiveness
by Harold Macdonald
Forgiveness: a talent for forgivers,
their sin erased, their conscience cleaned – one swipe;
’though they prick with arrows by the quiver
apologize for sins of every type,
they go their way, most happily absolved.
For others, it’s no quick and easy route;
in the mind the hurtful act revolves,
the pain increases, is the more acute
the sinful deed replays itself, no end.
And just demands require a fair repair!
In truth, there are, there should be, no amends
the evil equal to the good? Not fair!
Unless, of course, all have smote another
have forgot their own forgiving brother.
