Dearmer's Dilemma

Father Percy DearmerNewly ordained a priest, the young Curate insists on dropping to both knees before and after the elevation of the Blessed Sacrament during the Prayer of Consecration, claiming that the revised Roman Missal of 1570 did give sanction for such practice, and that the 1549 English Prayer Book was actually a load of ecclesiastical twaddle. Do you:

a. Refer him to the 1904 expositions and commentaries of J. Wickham Legg which argue against the perceived inclusion of this ritual?

b. Point out kindly but firmly that his adopted actions were a prime example of Gallican church custom and taste invading the simplicity of the traditional Rite? Or,

c. Completely ignore the poor, deluded fellow. If he wants to look liturgically stupid and permanently damage his knees thats up to him. (Hell be gone in a couple of years, anyway.) Pour yourself an extra large gin and get on with writing the next Advent sermon.
