The shepherd knows the sheep as parents know the child.

They see the glance across the road, the dash!

Anticipate, forestall the lethal crash;

impulsive acts, the deeds both tame and wild.

God also intervenes to find the lost

to show and lead along a certain way

from gloom into the clearest light of day.

We rarely know, we seldom count the cost.

God is the shepherd, parent of each one

‘though many look not up to see the Sun.
