When Jesus Came

When Jesus came

his neighbourhood

received him not

denied his good

but he forgave

became their food

his flesh and blood

on a cross of wood.

When Jesus came

his healing hands

reached every need

loosed Satan’s bands

Himself he gave

It was God’s plan

and set us free

just as God commands

Too frequently

I’ll fail and fall

God sees my deeds

how they appal

Yet Jesus died

and gave his all.

To strengthen me

and I’m standing tall.

When Jesus came

he was God’s Word

the hearers knew,

God’s grace conferred

God’s kingdom here

Creation stirred

the dead came forth

for His voice they heard.
