Untying the Shoes

John, came from God and nothing gave him pause

personal identity intrigued him not

importance was not something that he sought

so concentrated on God’s word, God’s cause. 

Defined himself in terms of untying shoes;

unworthiness his boast, his very core.

Whatever he might do, the Christ did more

Messiah imminent - his only news!

So full of God, for self he had no room

understanding that the time had fully come;

(His father, Zachariah, speechless, dumb);

God’s miracle afoot to end our doom.

Pray that you, with God, are so obsessed

a means whereby the Church, the world, is blessed.
