One Is Coming

Harold MacdonaldHear the Baptist’s preaching of repentance;

this rough man of wilderness in camel’s hair,

speaks God’s blunt truth; One comes, he says,

prepare

at once, (too late!), while still you have the chance.

We’re at a tipping point beyond our ken

more than the end for which we hoped, is come;

the dead will walk, and eloquent the dumb;

all will be new and all alive again!

Not looking back to old familiar sin

but by upward faces watching, hoping

dawn shall banish darkness and our groping

the gift of Spirit is how we begin.

Make a place then, for the GodSelf’s advent

to you and all, a transformation’s sent.
