At the Gates

So you thought there was no day of reckoning

or accountability for what you do.

God’s justice swallowed by indulging you

a slumbering conscience beckoning?

But love and justice are as one in God;

the forgiven must become, forgiver

before the court of justice, quiver

and with the winged shoes of love be shod.

The words of Christ can never pass away!

See, he is standing at the very gate;

he knows the shape of love, the shape of hate;

His mercy comes; and no one knows the day.

Compassion is the face of Christ when he appears

See with his eyes, hear what the Spirit hears.
