Caravaggio: Deposition

CONSECRATION

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. Amen.

For a continual sense of thy abiding presence and thy overruling guidance in our daily life:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For the illuminating grace of thy Holy Spirit, that we may be guided to use for thee every power and every opportunity thou hast given us:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For grace so to live in the light of thy divine love for us that, loving thee above all, we may give to others the sunshine of love which has its source in thee alone:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For spiritual insight to realize more fully our influence on others, and grace to use it only and always for thee:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For wisdom taught of love to understand the needs of our friends, and grace to help them by prayer and sympathy:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For daily renewal of the spirit of true joy which the sense of thy abiding presence alone can give, that all the joys of our life may be sanctified in thee:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For a steadfast heart to meet with constant cheerfulness the anxieties and trials of our life, as thy way of sanctification for us:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For grace to make the spirit in which we fulfill all social duties one with the spirit of our inmost life and prayers:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For grace to refrain from the unkind word, and from the unkind silence:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For inward light to see how far short we have come of thy divine purpose for us:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For a truer penitence, a firmer faith, a deeper devotion, a more perfect love:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

For a fuller apprehension of thine infinite love for us of the power of prayer of the joy of spiritual things of the glory that shall be revealed:

O Lord, hear our prayer.

And grant unto us, unworthy though we are, a clear vision of the beauty of holiness, and a sure confidence that in thy light and by thy grace we may at last attain to it, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
