You are encouraged to look at the Lambeth Quadrilateral. In the late 19th Century Churchmen on both sides of the Atlantic recognized the value of a statement that would outline the essentials of our faith. In the latter half of the twentieth century these principles have been forgotten. The Montreal Declaration - not an official position adopted by the Anglican diocese of Montreal, or the Provincial Synod of the Province of Canada, or the General Synod of Canada - attempts to provide another creedal statement. The "essentials" recognized by our Anglican Communion - an official position of the General Convention of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the United States of America (PECUSA) 1886 meeting in Chicago as well as the Lambeth Conference of 1888 meeting in London - number four only: and these form the basis of any ecumenical effort of the Church in Communion with Canterbury. |
