Summary of responses to Valuation form (19 completed and returned)

Great,10 (x5 – excellent leadership – a productive structure and process); 9 (x4); 8 (x5); 6; - (x3)

I see some things in a new way

Because my vision grew…

The tension between what is hurtful and hard as a rock can become the place where dreams and grace are born; I developed a greater appreciation for many forms of worship – I observed the workings of Holy Spirit – the importance of silence – I leave with confidence we will find ways to serve peoples’ needs & to bring Christ into their lives – enormous talent in our midst; I feel happy and hopeful in my journey with Christ, with other faithful in the church – also I feel more committed in the mission of the Church; we must remember that first we are Christian choosing to worship in the Anglican faith; I can appreciate the tremendous task that this committee has undertaken – I realize the tremendous responsibility as well – I pray that God will bless you and give you the wisdom, patience and understanding that you will need;

About the complexity of the issues, yet in many ways, there was a commonality of vision that we want a liturgy that meets the needs of people; through seeing problems and goals through different eyes.

Some things really helped:

Appreciative Inquiry was good; I thought the convergence process was very well organized;

Dialogue, youthfulness, prayer, "senior, young, Tanya," moments; the talking stick technique, the freedom to choose items and questions of interest, the use of stones; personal contacts, in & out of sessions – quiet times for reflection – our services together – the respect accorded to each person’s views, the general atmosphere of fellowship, and a sincere attempt to find solutions;

Openness; the opening session was extremely interesting as were the exercises on Saturday a.m. though it was very concentrated; the appreciative inquiry really creates energy – the open space triggers creativity in freedom; small group discussion & participation; the open space is an excellent concept and offered the chance to discuss topics in a free and open manner; working at building relationships & building a common core; the use of open space after the clear statement of what we are about and who we all were. (My first experience of Open Space – I had been very skeptical.) Barbara’s good natured but firm control. The participation of knowledgeable, enthusiastic and articulate young people; open circle, listening!; having the "formal" worship in the beautiful chapel instead of the meeting room; it was interesting to hear the different opinions regarding cultural and youth experiences. It helped me to appreciate their frustrations in a way I didn’t before; Open Spave – discussions & plenary, Night Prayer, planning for eucharist, inclusion of many talents; people help, listening helps, our leaders helped; probing questions, "coffee time" discussions

Other things didn’t…

The talking stone – I am reluctant to go and get it and sit down again; not enough breathing space to relax & fellowship during the day; the imposition of the "talking rock" discouraged participation for some (it may work in some cultures, but perhaps not in others); language used (word choices) may have been over some of our heads; labels on bathrooms should remain constant; unreflected and unchallenged ideas – "off the wall" comments were legitimated by this process; fear of unknown and undefined

or could have been done better

I cannot think of any; thought it was excellent; Congratulations to the organizing team; is it ever possible to have a balance of male/female? 50% of a group being male clergy can lead to biased discussion

In order to share the vision back home, I need

To absorb the open space reports; a workshop format for discussing liturgy on a parish level for beginner & up levels which can assist me in introducing the subject of liturgical change to a BCP only congregation;

I really need to ponder and reflect on the different discussions that took place this weekend – I need to read the reports and inform people as to what is going on regarding the liturgy we use. I need to stay involved, to learn, to get other people involved; reports of all info good and bad; the documentation of the 4 consultations; to keep thinking and working with the team who came; continued updates about what FWM is doing – awareness of this initiative at the parish level is important; patience, strength, courage, understanding, time to share; openness, understanding, capacity of listening…; to have a written report of the final session which I understand will be forthcoming; to put order in my notes – to distil the handouts in order to tell "my" people the exciting work in progress; All the reports from all the consultations – can we have the "things to do next" comments from the last discussion groups?; tell – truthfully – what we all share in our many locations; to see the notes from the consultation – I think we’ll do a similar kind of consultation on liturgy through our Doctrine and Worship Committee.

Pre-conference arrangements 10 (x2); 9 – needed a bit more information – it would have been nice, however the arrangements were still good!; 8 (x2) – I would have liked to have had just a little pre-cognizance of the agenda – although later I realized this did not tally with the overall plan; excellent, all concerns met; "just show up!"; 7 (x3 – no phone # on info – very much needed), something of the format of an agenda – sent out ahead of time would have helped people have a better sense of what to expect at the consultation; 6 - clearer details re travel would have helped; 5 (x2) – would have appreciated more advance information – it would have been better to have provided better directions for those travelling by car; I was confused about how to prepare – now that I see what happened I understand why, but it felt difficult for a while; would have appreciated some scheduling information

Travel pool 10 (x5) – excellent planning; smooth and efficient transportation arrangements, a strong component. A traveling companion or two was great!; excellent (x2); 9 (x2); N/A; not sure how it operates; I still don’t understand how this works, even tho’ I arranged the travel for the group

Villa Madonna 11

Rooms: 10 (x8) great; It was a great facility; A+; excellent; 9 great; 8 (x3); comfortable, welcoming; clean and comfortable; 6;

Being together

First evening: 10 (x4); 9 (x2); 9 really helped us to learn who was who and where they were coming from with respect to liturgy; 8 (x3) some time limitations on personal info would have been better; it was excellent hearing others’ stories, it helped in the small group discussion; invigorating, fascinating, and extremely moving; everyone was easy and relaxed; 7 (x3) a little too drawn out

Appreciative Inquiry: 10 (x5) a great way to open dialogue on important questions; 9 (x2); 8 (x4) the title of my story helped, so did striving to identify values; really enjoyed this segment; 7 (x2) a very good process but I felt we were rushed in trying to prepare a statement

Open Space: 11; 10 (x5) It only felt awkward for a few moments; 9 (x4) worked well – convergence was a good process with a fair degree of consensus around "hopeful possibilities" and recommendations; 8 (x2); 7 (x2) a challenging method of organizing workshops; daunting, demanding, stimulating; The Open Space format & the freedom for conversation were exciting – new to me; Was hesitant with this concept but it worked. The facilitator was excellent! Good work Barbara.

Workshops (specify): #1-7, #6 –5 (too much discussion on other topics), #8 – 6 (too many clergy with own agenda), #9 – 7, #10 – 8 (very well run, interesting discussion), #11 – 8; #1,#8,#9,#10,#12; #1 –10, #2 –10, #3 – 10, #4 – 10, #5 – 10; #2, #5, #10, #11 – 7; 7 – 8; 8; 10; 10; 9; 8; I liked being able to choose; ??; were sensitively planned and led; 8 – the one on core curriculum was well organized

Sending Out

Closing Eucharist: 12 (x2) – it spoke very strongly of the hopes of liturgical renewal…;10 (x5 - in planning); 9; 8; well prepared and an at-one-ness; a time of peace – blessing; inspiring and empowering; very effective – but for me (as I indicated) I felt excluded at the vital proclamation of the Holy Gospel. I don’t think I was the only one in this category.; 6

Other

Did anything valuable happen that you didn’t expect??!: A silent walk of the Stations of the Cross – understanding of a deep problem around "openness"… understanding of the frustrations we all feel and the deep faith that confronts them; yes – the community; This needs to be done again!; too much to name; yes – this conference allowed good interaction with the youth members; yes – we really listened instead of arguing; rock centering.
