Followers of Jesus

Me thought, "I'll follow Jesus",

so I started on my way.

The light was bright,

the way was warm,

no sacrifice could stay.

I climbed the path and then the hill

I felt the Lord was near,

and that I would soon be there.

I followed on with fervour strong,

I thought that I was great.

But suddenly, the darkness fell,

I could not meditate.

In darkness and concealment then

my house being now all stilled,

And my soul with beauty filled.

From time to time a shaft of light,

would filter through the night,

but afterwards a fog came down,

my joys were put to flight.

Awareness of His Presence,

and a certain “letting go”,

Divinisation, that is so.

It is the Living Flame of Love

that dwells now in my heart.

It’s not a thing that can be seen,

oft’ times it’s in the dark.

“In secret now, you dwell alone in mysteries divine”,

and I am wholly Thine.

My eyes fixed on the crucified,

as Holy mother said.

With Mary and with Carmel’s Saints

there is no fear or dread.

Now love is my vocation

as I walk “The Little Way”,

for Time and for Eternity.
