Cedric the Curate
Cedric the Curate was a happy young soul
With a latin cassock and an itching nose
And a wonderful Christmas stole.
Cedric the Curate is so High Church, they say.
He genuflects low, but parishioners know
What happened last Christmas Day.
There must have been much blessing
In that stole of gold and white,
For when he placed it on that day
He was suddenly bathed in light!
O Cedric the Curate
Danced up the quire so bold
And in one leap he flew right over
The altar clad in gold
Kyrie Eleison
Kyrie Eleison
Listen to Cedric pray!!
Sumsum Corda,
Proper preface,
Consecrating away!
Cedric the Curate knew
There were many in church that morn.
So he said “Draw near, and Eat and drink
For Christ the Lord is born!”
But then he shocked both one and all
By sitting in his chair.
And the paten and chalice left their place
And floated through the air.
They moved without fail along the rail
Sharing that Blood and Body,
And all the people did agree
”That sacrament’s bona fide!”
Then Cedric the Curate
Snapped his fingers to his right
And the cruets of water and ruby wine
Performed the ablution rite.
Kyrie Eleison,
Kyrie Eleison,
Listen to Cedric bless!
Go in peace,
To love and serve,
I’m off to Inverness!
Tune: Frosty the Snowman - traditional.
